Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9982 revealed – Posh BlackBerry Z10, anyone?

August 5, 2013

BlackBerry P9982 Front

When BlackBerry moved to make BlackBerry 10 its key focus we thought we would see no more of their partnership with Porsche Designs and the swanky and expensive phones that came as a result of it.

However, a recent set of high quality leaked images prove otherwise. The BlackBerry P’9982 shows that the company still wants to make luxurious and exclusive phones with the Porsche Design name on them, but with the new BlackBerry 10 OS as well.

From the looks of things the P’9982 is based on the BlackBerry Z10, with added brushed metal and leather for good measure. In fact, the design looks extremely similar to the first prototype BlackBerry 10 device we ever saw, which back then was codenamed BlackBerry Surfboard, then BlackBerry London.

BlackBerry P9982 Back

The back of the phone is clad in classy black leather whilst a polished strip of aluminium runs around the edges. That familiar Porsche Design logo is engraved above the screen, which itself is the same 4.2-inch HD display as the Z10.

N4BB, who leaked a number of high quality hands-on images of the phone, say that the BlackBerry P’9982 will launch some time in 2014 and will cost in the region of $2,000 USD. The original Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9981 was priced very similarly.

As with the P’9981, little will change when it comes to internal specifications when it comes to the new model. The allure is of course in the altered exclusive design and Porsche Design brand, plus the bragging rights that inevitably come with owning a $2k smartphone.

Confirmed: Samsung Galaxy Note III to launch on September 4th

August 5, 2013

Galaxy Note 3 Invite

It’s official. We’ll finally be able to meet Samsung’s next Galaxy Note on September 4th.

The long-rumoured, often-leaked Samsung Galaxy Note III will make its first official public appearance at another of Samsung’s trademark Unpacked events in just under a month’s time, confirmed by the arrival of press invites from the Korean company today.

Unlike it did with the Galaxy S4, Samsung will host the event in Berlin. Whether we’ll see a repeat of the very odd and surely high budget Broadway-style launch event which welcomed the S4 remains to be seen.

The event invite gives little away, telling us to “note the date”. The usual Samsung Unpacked logo is there, albeit looking rather different. The logo looks to have been roughly scribbled down, which is likely a reference to the Note’s stylus and drawing apps.

So far we’ve garnered plenty of information from the numerous leaks which have all promised a phone with an even bigger screen than the current Galaxy Note II. The latest crop of rumours and reports seem to have settled on a size of 5.7-inches, but the real boon will be the quality upgrade to Full HD, which is a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Other upgrades suggested include an upgraded rear camera, faster processor, more RAM and a newer version of Android which is likely to be 4.3 Jelly Bean. We’ll find out all for sure – including whether that smart watch rumour is true – in just under a month’s time.

5-inch BlackBerry 10 device revealed in video as the BlackBerry Z30

August 5, 2013

BlackBerry Z30 Leak

You might remember a brand new and unannounced BlackBerry smartphone that leaked not so long ago. The phone is bigger and supposedly better than the current flagship, the Z10, but little else was known, especially with regards to its identity.

With the BlackBerry 10.2 software update on the way and test versions already out, the name of the device has been revealed thanks to a logo hidden within the software. The name indicates that the phone will belong to BlackBerry’s all-touch Z series and will follow on from the Z10.

Z30 Logo

Further to that, official tutorial videos for the as yet unannounced phone have also leaked online over the weekend. These videos are intended to show new buyers how to use the snazzy touch gestures in BlackBerry 10.2, which will be the software running out of the box on the Z30.

The rendered image in the tutorial videos matches up perfectly with the real life pictures that were leaked not long ago by Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn and depict a phone which follows the same design language as the Z10 but bigger, and with subtle tweaks.

It looks as though BlackBerry has ditched the use of coloured plastic above and below the display, with just a grey strip now featuring below the screen. Above, the display is flanked by glossy black with a front facing camera, sensors and a grille covering the earpiece.

The phone was previously thought to be called the A10; the first member of a new and high-end ‘A series’, sporting a 5-inch display and a host of other upgraded specifications.

There’s no word on when we can expect BlackBerry to reveal the Z30, but with the current trio not long since launched and BlackBerry 10.1 only just rolling out, we can’t see it arriving until at least Christmas time.
